Dit zijn de boeken van oktober, november en december. Nu ik in de bibliotheekbranche werk, kom ik dagelijks leuke boeken tegen en neem ik dus ook veel meer mee naar huis. Het was een goed seizoen om te lezen. Er zitten dit keer een heleboel 5-stars tussen!
Everything I Know About Love – Dolly Alderton

In her memoir, she vividly recounts falling in love, finding a job, getting drunk, getting dumped, realizing that Ivan from the corner shop might just be the only reliable man in her life, and that absolutely no one can ever compare to her best girlfriends. Everything I Know About Love is about bad dates, good friends and—above all else— realizing that you are enough.
Af en toe kies ik een audioboek voor tijdens het koken en schoonmaken. Ik had gehoord dat dit boek erg grappig was, dus ik ging ervoor. En het was ook heel grappig, maar het was ook erg verdrietig, nostalgisch en soms bizar. Erg leuk om al deze wilde ervaring te horen, al vond ik mijn eigen leven opeens een tikje saai. Dit boek werkt naar mijn mening beter als audioboek dan als leesboek.

Ik pak altijd een boek van Ali Hazelwood als ik even iets ‘makkelijks’ wil lezen. Het is gewoon altijd goed. Deze was net even wat anders dan de andere boeken die ik van haar heb gelezen, maar ik vond hem erg geslaagd. ‘Love, Theoretically’ blijft echter mijn favoriet.

Ik heb weer een abonnement bij de bibliotheek! Deze wilde ik al een tijdje lezen nadat ik de delen van Heartstopper had gelezen. Het speelt zich in hetzelfde universum af. Nu zag ik hem staan op de YA-afdeling van mijn lokale bieb.
Het is echter een heel ander soort verhaal, zoals de kaft zegt is het geen liefdesverhaal. Eerder een mysterie. De reveal vond ik niet heel spannend, en alles wat daarna kwam was een beetje onrealistisch. Ondanks dat heb ik het met veel plezier gelezen.
Glucose revolutie – Jessie Inchauspé
Er zijn een aantal zaken waar we nooit vanaf lijken te komen – zoals die eeuwige after dinner dip na de lunch, hormonale moodswings en onbedwingbare trek in zoet of zout. De boosdoener? Voedingsgerelateerde schommelingen in onze bloedsuikerspiegel. In de afgelopen vijf jaar hebben wetenschappers ontdekt dat glucose ieders gezondheid beïnvloedt, niet alleen die van mensen met diabetes. Als we te veel glucose (ook wel bloedsuiker genoemd) in ons systeem hebben, voelen we ons onder andere vermoeid en hongerig en lijdt onze hormoonbalans daaronder. En na verloop van tijd draagt te veel glucose in je systeem zelfs bij aan chronische aandoeningen zoals diabetes, dementie en hartaandoeningen. Dit boek is zowel vermakelijk als informatief en staat boordevol met de nieuwste wetenschappelijke ontdekkingen en verrassend toepasbare tips. Glucose revolutie helpt om je gezondheid te verbeteren zonder op dieet te gaan.
Nog een boek wat ik al tijden wilde lezen en nu zag staan bij mijn bibliotheek. Het verbaasd me echt hoe groot het assortiment is, zelfs bij mijn lokale kleine bieb. Non-fictie lezen vind ik normaal erg zwaar, ik kan er vaak geen goed moment voor vinden. Dit boek was (op een paar delen na) erg makkelijk geschreven, maar wel vol met informatie. Het geeft je 10 makkelijke acties waarmee je je glucosepieken kunt afvlakken. Ik vond de tips echt handig en goed uit te voeren. Waarom je die acties zou moeten volgen, wordt uitgebreid uitgelegd met onderbouwde argumenten. Het heeft me wat inzichten gegeven die ik nu zelf probeer door te voeren.
Vinex – Bernice Berkleef
Hein en Simone verruilen hun appartement in het hippe Amsterdam-Zuid voor een landelijk gelegen nieuwbouwwijk in Amstelveen. Ondanks het grotere huis en de natuur om hen heen komt de burgerlijkheid van de Vinex-wijk hen algauw tegen te staan. Maar onder die schijn van braafheid gaat het nodige schuil… Een buurvrouw die niet gelukkig is in haar huwelijk en de grenzen opzoekt. Een agente die in de ziektewet is beland en een klein privéonderzoek start om zich maar nuttig te voelen. Een tiener die in een pleeggezin is geplaatst en een ijzingwekkende ontdekking doet. Op hun eigen manier gaan ze allemaal stukje bij beetje over de schreef, totdat het tijdens een buurtfeest volledig uit de hand loopt.
Ik kwam dit boek voor het eerst tegen toen ik zelf in een nieuwbouwhuis woonde. De samenvatting sprak me daarom wel aan. Vervolgens ben ik er jaren niet aan toegekomen, en nu kwam ik deze titel tegen in de bibliotheek. Het kwam een beetje te dichtbij, het hele boek speelt zich af rond Amsterdam en Amstelveen, maar dat maakte het ook wel grappig. Geen life-changing boek, maar zeker een vermakelijke thriller.
The Blonde Identity – Ally Carter

And oh yeah…
3. People keep trying to kill her.
She doesn’t know who. Or why. But when she sees footage of herself fighting off a dozen men there’s only one explanation: obviously… she’s a spy!
Deze had ik als ‘extra’ boek van de bieb meegenomen. Omdat hij wisselende reviews kreeg, had ik er weinig van verwacht. Dit was echt een geweldig boek! De personages zijn erg grappig en heel sassy, en het is gewoon een heel leuk verhaal. Je moet het niet te serieus nemen, dit is gewoon een leuke tijd.

Ik vond deel 1 zo leuk, dat ik direct daarna aan deel 2 ben begonnen. Deze hadden ze niet bij de bieb, dus heb ik hem als audiobook geluisterd. Ook weer erg leuk, al vond ik de karakters uit boek 1 leuker. Ook dit deel was weer mega grappig en sassy.
The Sleepover – Michael Regina
When the Russo family returns home from vacation to discover their nanny, Ruby, has unexpectedly passed away, Matthew takes the news the hardest. After weeks of reeling, his three best friends decide to cheer him up with a night of junk food, prank calls, and scary movies. But their plans for a sleepover are jeopardized when Matt’s single mother–unable to take any more time off of work–is forced to hire a new nanny on the fly to watch over Matt and his younger sister, Judy.
Miss Swan, however, is all too happy to have the boys over. And although she seems like the perfect babysitter, letting the kids eat whatever they want and mostly leaving them alone, there’s something about her that Matt doesn’t trust. He thinks she may actually be the witch from local legend–the one who torments children into the night and then eats them. Is he just having a hard time dealing with Ruby’s replacement, as his friends suspect? Has he watched one too many scary movies, as his mom fears? Or are he and his horror-buff friends in for the fright of their lives as they come face-to-face with a real monster?
Deze graphic novel is middle grade, maar ik vond het nog best spannend. Op Goodreads werd veel gesproken over een Stranger Things vibe, dat klopt wel vind ik! Een kort maar spannend verhaal om in één avond uit te lezen.
In Real Life – Cory Doctorow & Jen Wang

Deze stond al lang op mijn lijst, en kwam ik nu tegen in de bieb. Een leuk verhaal, maar ik vond het niet zo speciaal als sommige andere boeken op deze lijst.

Jaren geleden heb ik het originele boek gelezen en daar was ik erg van onder de indruk. De graphic novel is ook erg goed. Ik heb al meerdere boeken gelezen die geïllustreerd zijn door E.M. Carroll, en hun stijl is zo mooi!

Vorige kerst wilde ik dit boek al lezen, maar ik kwam er echt niet doorheen. Dit jaar heb ik het nog een keer geprobeerd, en eigenlijk viel het me mee. Dit is echt zo’n cheesy film van Hallmark maar dan in boek vorm. Niet het meest spannende boek dat ik ooit heb gelezen, maar wel erg cozy.
Een hoop boeken dus, deze herfst. Er zaten echt wel een aantal tips tussen, dus daar ben ik erg blij mee. Ik heb een nieuw reading goal op Goodreads van 24 boeken, dus in 2026 hoop ik weer een heleboel boeken te lezen 🤩
