Normaal laat ik zien wat ik in een seizoen lees, maar de afgelopen twee maanden heb ik zo veel gelezen dat ik iets sneller een update wil delen. Dus bij deze.
Bloom – Kevin Panetta

Deze graphic novel stond al jaren op mijn lijst en nu kon ik hem lezen via de bibliotheek. Het boek moest wel helemaal uit de andere kant van het land komen, maar dan heb je ook wat. Het is een prachtig boek, heel mooi getekend en een interessant verhaal. Het was echter niet zo diepgaand en ik vond de hoofdpersonages niet erg interessant. Prima, maar dus niet fantastisch.
The Night Circus – Erin Morgenstern

Als (onofficieel) doel voor dit jaar wilde ik mij richten op langere boeken. Ik vind 250 pagina’s meestal wel genoeg voor een boek. Night Circus stond al jaren in mijn boekenkast, maar door de 600+ pagina’s durfde ik er steeds niet aan te beginnen. In januari ben ik toch begonnen, en ik heb er geen spijt van gehad. Het is prachtig geschreven, de personages zijn allemaal diepgaand en interessant. Je krijgt van alle magische aspecten een uitgebreide omschrijving. Soms had het van mij wel iets korter gemogen, ik hou toch meer van een boek met een hoog tempo. Ik ben wel blij dat ik mij door de tragere stukken heen heb geslagen en mijn ‘angst’ voor dikkere boeken heb aangepakt đź¤
Brownstone – Samuel Teer & Mar Julia

Deze kwam ik tegen op de YA-afdeling van de bieb. Na de laatste graphic novel die toch een beetje tegenviel, had ik er weinig van verwacht. Deze was echter heel erg leuk! Ik vond dit een mooie manier om te leren over de effecten van gentrificatie en cultuurbarrières. En het was ook heel schattig hoe Almudena met haar vader communiceert. Ze moet namelijk bij hem logeren maar hij spreekt geen Engels, en zij spreekt geen Spaans.

Dit was het niet helemaal voor mij. Sowieso vind ik sciencefiction vaak een lastig genre. Ik vond het ook allemaal wat te traag gaan en te lang duren, daardoor kwam ik maar niet in de flow van het verhaal. Ik heb deze dus niet uitgelezen. De stijl vond ik overigens wel heel gaaf.

Ik dacht dat dit een gewone roman was, maar het blijkt een horror. Oeps. De atmosfeer in dit boek is heel sterk. Vanaf de eerste pagina voel je je ongemakkelijk, alsof er elk moment een monster kan opduiken. Ik bleef ook maar wachten op een bovennatuurlijk aspect, maar het einde is iets heel anders. Ik snapte er vrij weinig van tijdens het lezen, maar wist wel gelijk dat ik dit even op moest zoeken. En dat werkte, want nu ik weet wat er gebeurde, is mijn mind blown 🤯

Ik vond mijn eerste aanvaring met een horror wel positief, dus koos ik gelijk een tweede uit. Deze kwam ik tegen in een video van Gab Smolders, een van mijn favoriete Youtubers. Ik begon tijdens de heenreis en toen mijn weekendje weg over was, was ook het boek uit. Dit boek had veel meer diepgang dan ik van tevoren had verwacht. Het is een kort boekje (158 pagina’s) maar alles voelde goed uitgedacht. Er zit veel actie in en het is wat minder duister dan ‘I’m thinking of ending things’. Zeker een aanrader.

In 2024 heb ik de serie ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ gelezen. Die vond ik echt geweldig en raad ik nog steeds aan iedereen aan. Ik wilde ook een ander boek van Holly Jackson proberen, en deze is ook fantastisch. Is het volledig realistisch? nee. Is het vermakelijk en werd ik verrast door het einde? Ja. Helemaal leuk.
Dit waren de boeken die ik in december en januari heb gelezen. Een goede start van 2026 wat lezen betreft. Ik vind het ook heel fijn om aan wat titels toe te komen die al een tijdje op de lijst staan. Misschien dat ik het einde van mijn want-to-read lijst ooit bereik, maar waarschijnlijk niet.
